Individual Rations
Individual Rations are used to sustain individuals during worldwide operations that do not allow for organized food service facilities. Several types of individual meal rations exist to meet the needs of military personnel and displaced persons living under emergency conditions.

MRE (Meals, Ready to Eat)
MREs are used to sustain individuals during operations that preclude organized food service facilities, but where resupply is established or planned. Each ration contains an entrée/starch, crackers, spread, dessert/snack, beverages, accessory pack, plastic spoon and Flameless Ration Heater (FRH). Each MRE ration provides an average of 1300 kilocalories.

HDR (Humanitarian Daily Rations)
HDRs are used to feed large populations of displaced persons or refugees living under emergency conditions. Each ration contains a minimum of two entrees and complementary components to provide a full day's sustenance. Each HDR ration provides no less than 2200 kilocalories. *HDR rations do not contain animal products or by-products, except the minimal amounts of dairy. Alcohol and alcohol based ingredients are also excluded from these rations.

MCW/LRP (Meal, Cold Weather/Long Range Patrol)
MCW/LRPs are used to sustain individuals during extreme cold or hot operations. Each ration is lightweight and contains a dehydrated entrée and a variety of spreads, crackers, cookies, sports bars, nuts, candy and powdered beverages with an accessory packet and plastic spoon. Each MCW/LRP ration provides an average of 1540 kilocalories.

TOTM (Meal, Tailored Operational Training)
TOTMs are used to provide an alternative operational training meal in lieu of "sack lunches" and catered commercial meals to military organizations that engage in inactive duty training. The TOTM ration is similar in contents to the MRE, but employs commercial packaging to reduce costs. Each TOTM ration provides an average of 997 kilocalories.
